Face illumination is performed with semi-transparent reddish color of ocher. The moves are applied in the form of lines, on the parts of face which need to be light. The transition should be gradual. When applied layer is dried you can apply next layer (which is little lighter), but only in places that should be even brighter. For every successive layer you put some white color in color you work with. Each lighter shade should be applied on a smaller area, so that the brightest shade of clean white color can be only applied in the form of few thin dashes.

Take care that one side of the face (the one that is facing the viewer) must be more lighter. In this way the body gets plasticity.

You need to lighten lips with lighter shade of basic color. Lower lip must be slightly lighter than the top. Than you add the redness on the cheeks using red color diluted with lots of water. The upper line of the eye must be increased with black color. Black color is also used for enhancing the brows, so that half of eyebrows - inside part must be black, but transition to a brown color of drawing must be gradual. Above the eyes you must pull pinkish line. The same color is used for making a small triangles in the corner of the eyes.

With diluted dark brown color we are making a gentle transition from drawing lines to a basic color, but only on the part of drawing which is in less-lit side of face.

With fine diluted light blue color we apply light blue glow, on the part of face between face proplasma's (proplasma is another name for the face basic color) and parts where the light has strongest intensity. This blue glow is specific for abnormal light which illuminates all in the icon. Abnormal light is uncreated light that comes from God. According to tradition abnormal light is intense white color with periodic blue shine.
